The Available Mother: Building a Prosperous Home

Building a home calls for collaboration between the husband and the wife with God as Project Manager.
 Reverend G. S. Adeyemo
I rejoice with our mothers on the 100th anniversary of the Baptist Women Missionary Union works in Nigeria.  Building a home is a collaboration between the husband and the wife The Available Mother is the Theme for this year’s Christian Home Week. In our Church  Christ Baptist Church Alimosho, the Women and Men Missionary Unions are focusing on Building a Prosperous Homes. Hence our topic for today is The Available Mother: Building a Prosperous Home.
The Scripture says, Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.” Proverbs 14: 1 In order to build a prosperous home, every woman must realize that she needs wisdom. Major reason is that marriage/home involves relationship between two people with different background, gender and experiences. They are to live together till death do them part. It is a union without reverse for better for worse.
Therefore I encourage you to be available in three major areas of life.
1. Spiritually you must be available: Mothers, be available in seeking God so you can model and lead your children to serve God. “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.” 2 Tim. 1:5; Titus 3: 3, 4
2. Economically you must be available: Mothers are to be productive in helping the family achieve the purpose of God for them. The Bible says, “She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.” Pro. 31: 13-15; Acts 9: 36-39; 16:14
3. Emotionally you must be available: Human beings are no angels. we need emotional balance. A wise mother will be available to provide emotional balance to the husband by fulfilling her conjugal right. 1 Cor 7: 5. Do not hoard your body from your husband because of money or unnecessary complaints. Be available in ‘the other room’.
It is my prayer that as you are willing to avail yourself to God and family you will be blessed in Jesus name.

Building A Prosperous Home

 Reverend G. S. Adeyemo

Introduction
Two keywords in the topic are 'building' and 'home'. We will examine the Keywords, The Principles for Building a Prosperous Home and Conclude with Relationship for Building a Prosperous Home. This message will by the special grace of God be in series till the end of the month. Don't miss any Sunday worship in the month.
Our text for today is from Psalms 11:1-3. It reads thus, "In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
The Keywords
I. Building: According to Wikipedia, "A building, or edifice, is a structure with a roof and walls standing more or less permanently in one place, such as a house or factory." In our own context, we are not only referring to the physical structure but it is about occupants and their structure.
There are three aspects of the home that we will concern ourselves with namely:
1. The Foundation: - The foundation determines the type, size, and strength of a building. The same thing applies to a home or marriage. Get your foundation right before building.
2. The Functions: - Every building is designed for a purpose. Therefore, each component performs a specific function. Examples of components that impact a building include the design, the materials, the builders and environment of a building. In the home, the father, mother, children and in-laws have functions. Know what is your purpose and functions in the building you are getting into.
3. The Conditions: - In building, there are conditions that puts weights on the home positively or negatively. Therefore you need patience, prayer, and persistence through love to cope.
Our young brothers and sisters, who are jumping at any friend request, must beware of what you are going into before you go far. If the foundation be destroyed, what can your talent or money do or religiosity do? Except the Lord build a home the labourers are only busy doing nonsense.
II. Home: -Home means different things to different people. To some, it is a residence; to another is a family, household, tribes, place of birth, site etc. someone writes ““Home is where our story begins…Home is the starting place of love, hope and dreams.” Isaiah 32:18 says, “My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest” (NIV) The word home in Hebrew ‘Bayith’ refers to: home, house as containing a family, household, family, those belonging to the same household, family of descendants, descendants as organized body.” In other words a home comprises the father, mother and children. It also relate to extended family members. However, lets us restrict ourselves to the nuclear family. And the kind of home we wish to emphasize is a prosperous home as purposed by God.
Kim Brenneman says, “No matter our living circumstances, our living space is a place of ministry to family and friends. The attitude we have in keeping our home, in how we relate to our family and friends, and in caring for others reflects God's love to us. When we take care of our spiritual health and seek wisdom from God's Word in how to love others, that outpouring of love appears in our homes.”
When you build your home in God for God and through God, your life becomes a channel of blessing, model for others and glory to the name of God.
This teaching continues next Sunday. Don’t miss it and you will be greatly blessed in Jesus name.
