The Sacredness of Church Music

 Text: Psalm 33:1–3; Colossians 3:16

Rev'd G. S. Adeyemo

Introduction

Church music is more than singing beautiful songs or entertaining a congregation. It is a sacred ministry through which believers worship God, proclaim His Word, edify the Church, and lead people into meaningful fellowship with Him.

In the Baptist tradition, congregational singing and choral ministry are important expressions of worship. Therefore, singers must understand that singing in God's house is a spiritual responsibility that requires holiness, preparation, and excellence.

Aim: To teach singers about the sacredness of church music through three essential principles: Sacredness, Skilfulness, and Sweetness.

Church music becomes a powerful ministry when Sacredness governs the heart, Skilfulness develops the gift, and Sweetness edifies the Church.

As Baptist church and all christian singers, let us remember that we are not merely singing songs; we are serving God and ministering to His people.

Challenge: Before you sing, ask yourself three questions:

  • Is my heart right with God?
  • Have I prepared to sing excellently?
  • Will my singing glorify Christ and edify the Church?

Closing Scripture: Psalm 100:2 — “Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.”

Closing Prayer: Lord, purify our hearts, develop our gifts, and unite our voices so that our music will glorify You, proclaim Your truth, and edify Your Church. In Jesus' name. Amen.
